| Warm Water Therapy Pool for Arthritic Relief Though it is known that regular exercise helps to keep joints moving, restoring and preserving flexibility and strength dry land exercise can further impact your pain. Even low impact movements can be a strain for many arthritis sufferers. Doctors agree that warm water exercise is the absolute best form of exercise to reduce arthritic pain because of the low stress placed on the exercising body. Warm water therapy exercise, also known as Aquatherapy, can also lead to mood enhancement, an improved sense of self-esteem, a sense of accomplishment and an overall wellness that just can not be achieved by dry land exercise alone The soothing warmth and buoyancy of warm water make it a safe and ideal environment for relieving arthritis pain and stiffness. Immersion in warm water raises your body temperature, causing your blood vessels to dilate and increases circulation. Warm water therapy is also a gentle way to exercise joints and muscles without additional stress. The natural buoyancy of water supports your joints to encourage free movement, and may also act as resistance to help build muscle strength as well. The use of heat has long been recommended for many people with arthritis and related conditions. These benefits of warm water heat can include, muscle relaxation, decreased pain and stiffness, greater ease when performing daily activities as well as dry land exercise. And though our Therapy Pools can achieve spa-like temperatures, most users prefer mild heat as it is just as effective and easier for the body to tolerate. The water temperature should feel soothing and comfortable, not hot. Most therapy pool users keep the water temperature from 83 to 93° F when doing their exercises. If you are just soaking or doing very gentle movements, such as Watsu, you can usually tolerate slightly higher temperatures. Temperature and length of stay will vary and is usually determined by what is most comfortable by the user. |
